Cloud Migration Center
Double-Take Cloud Migration Center is an online service that enables migrations from any Windows server to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, VMware vCloud Director, or OpenStack. This document provides a detailed technical briefing on the functionality and use of the Double-Take Cloud Migration Center and assumes that the reader will have at least a basic understanding of Cloud IaaS.
Each year more and more companies are moving to the cloud to streamline IT operations and reduce costs, and they are turning to cloud providers, system integrators and managed service providers to help them. Providers must be able to migrate servers into the cloud quickly, reliably and without business disruption and downtime in order to successfully onboard workloads into the cloud.
- Automates and streamlines migrations to the cloud
- Minimizes cloud migration risks and downtime
- Enables IT infrastructure flexibility
How Double-Take Cloud Migration Center works
Simplify your cloud migration and on-boarding process in 5 Easy Steps. After creating a Double-Take Cloud Migration Center account, simply add information about your environments to start migrating them to the cloud.
- Configure environments
Environments are the accounts you want to use for finding servers to migrate (sources) and the cloud servers where you wish to migrate them (targets). To create an environment, you must provide subscription information and/or credentials.
- Discover eligible servers
Double-Take Cloud Migration Center will use the information provided during environment configuration to find all the servers that are eligible to be migrated to Microsoft Azure, AWS, OpenStack, or VMware vCloud Director. These servers will be marked as ‘ready.’
- Create the migration
Next, the source servers to be migrated are selected and a simple wizard steps you through the process of creating the migration. Double-Take CMC will use information about the source server to select a default instance size in the target environment that best matches the source server. You can change the instance to either scale up or scale down when the server is migrated. Once the wizard is complete, Double-Take Cloud Migration Center will go through several automated steps to reach the point of being ready for cutover.
- Perform the cutover
After the initial mirror is complete, the migration job will be ready for cutover. If automatic cutover was selected in the migration wizard, then the cutover process will begin without any user intervention. If automatic cutover was not selected, then the migration job will remain in the ‘Ready for Cutover’ state until you initiate the cutover. Throughout the time that the migration job is in the ‘Ready for Cutover’ state, changes on the source server are replicated in real-time to the target server to keep them in sync.
- Complete the migration
Once the server has been successfully activated on the target instance, the migration is completed and the workload is running in the cloud.
