With the proliferation of servers and the influx of data growth in today's IT environments, organizations from the small to medium business (SMB) to the enterprise understand the value that networking plays in managing applications and business data. To use data to its fullest extent, it must be accessible to those who need it and when they need it in order to remain productive and competitive. In response to these demands, IBM and Vision Solutions have teamed up to provide host-based IP replication for the DS3500 series of storage systems, for simple and affordable server data protection and recovery with Double-Take RecoverNow.
Host-based IP replication allows you to protect both the host accessing the DS3500 series storage system and the data stored on it, with real-time data replication that provides the ability to recover the entire server on demand to virtual machines or physically dissimilar hardware. This industry-leading solution works over any IP network and reduces costs by utilizing existing network infrastructure as well as simplifying the protection and recovery process. IP replication by Double-Take RecoverNow for the DS3500 series is the first solution of its kind to combine bandwidth efficient real-time data replication with continuous system state protection to provide on demand recovery from either the real-time image or a snapshot image of the system from a previous point-in-time. This additional flexibility makes the solution ideal for recovering data from unwanted changes such as viruses, corruption and accidental deletions.

FlashCopy creates an immediate, space-efficient, logical copy of a storage volume with all the read, write and copy capabilities of the original. Volume snapshot enables non-production, backup or analysis servers to access an up-to-date copy of production data while the production data remains online and accessible to the user.
VolumeCopy creates an exact duplicate, or clone, of the production data which can be mapped to a separate server for analysis. The clone can be used for application testing or development, information analysis, data mining, or backup/restoration. VolumeCopy also can be used to redistribute data (moving volumes from older, slower disk drives to newer, faster or higher capacity drives), to optimize performance, storage density or capacity utilization.
IP replication for the DS3500 series provides continuous data replication over any distance so you always have access to a current copy of your data, applications and OS wherever you need it.
Recover an entire server to a new physical machine, even with dissimilar hardware, or automatically provision a new virtual machine for recovery, on either VMware ESX or Microsoft Hyper-V platforms. Easily adjust the virtual machine’s configuration, including the number of CPUs, the size of the virtual disks, and the amount of memory to assign. Virtualized workloads can also be recovered back to physical servers so you are never trapped if you recover to a virtual environment.
A single console allows you to configure all types of protection and recovery jobs, including dissimilar hardware and virtual recovery jobs. Job state indicators notify you of which jobs need attention. A single monitoring screen displays all protection and recovery jobs in a master job list that can be filtered by job state as needed. If you can’t always be in front of the monitoring screen, configure email notifications for offline notifications of important events.
Vision Solutions has worked with IBM to develop a new tool for its customers, sales force, and IBM partners that will allow a user to plug in details about their production source server in order to properly size the correct IBM System x configuration needed to protect that source server with Double-Take. This on-line tool on the IBM website is a great way to allow customers to provide information about their source server running an Exchange server, a particular size of database, or file server and then understand what hardware they will need to implement Double-Take on the target server. This tool is available to anyone that has a PartnerWorld account, including IBM Business Partners. To use the tool, a user will need a PartnerWorld account.
